If I could identify one trend of recent years, it’s the influx of mochi donuts to Columbus. Mochi is a glutinous Japanese rice flour that’s sticky and spongy when made into a batter. When it’s fried up, it makes these soft and airy delicacies – one of the most popular forms is these knobby donuts!
And that’s where a place like Mochi Ring comes in.
Mochi Ring is one of a couple storefronts that feature mochi donuts, and while they offer beverages and a few savory items, the donuts are the name of the game.
And like many of the newer Asian-inspired cafes and shops (like their Kenny Centre neighbor VGET Cafe), Mochi Ring is designed – both in product and in decor – to be colorful and engaging when featured on social media.
They’ll usually feature 10 or so flavors of mochi donuts, all lined up on trays. You’ll see flavors like Fruity Pebbles…
…Oreos…
…ube…
…and many more! They’ll rotate through seasonal flavors as well.
Each of the donuts is segmented into eight bites, which makes them fun to eat and easily shared.
You can order them individually or pick up a whole box of them!
In addition to the donuts, Mochi Ring features a variety of milk teas, fruit teas, and new sparkling lemonades.
And if you need a savory bite to offset the sweet, they offer Korean rice hot dogs, like corn dogs or mozzarella sticks dipped in a rice batter, fried crispy, and often topped with diced potatoes, crushed ramen, or even Cheetos.
They also recently added these potato tornados: spiral-cut fried potatoes on a stick. They’re crispy, drizzled with condiments, and fun to both consume and photograph for Instagram.
Mochi Ring is open Wednesday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed Tuesdays).
