Three Times the Charm: Katalina’s Tres Opens in Bexley

by admin

Fans of Katalina’s now have three locations for pancake balls, sweet and spicy bacon, pork sandwiches, and breakfast tacos! Katalina’s Tres opens today on East Main Street in Bexley, transforming a former Boston Market into another outpost for its signature Latin-inspired fare.

It joins the original location in Harrison West and the Clintonville outpost, Katalina’s, Too.

The long space features a front dining room with a kitchen at the back. Counters and tables with benches line the windows while rows of tables run up the middle.

Like its other locations, Katalina’s Tres has you order at the counter, then take a number and find a table. There are menus on the wall behind the ordering counter, which are difficult to see until you get up to it, but there are paper menus as well.

Katalina’s features a number of locally sourced products and ingredients on its menu, and it has a long-standing relationship with Thunderkiss Coffee. You’ll find hot coffee, plus cold brew and horchata cold brew in the coolers alongside a variety of juices, Mexican Coke, and other beverages.

Katalina’s most famous dish, of course, is the pancake balls. They’re stuffed with Nutella, dulce de leche, or pumpkin apple butter, then served with Milligan’s maple syrup and sweet and spicy bacon.

They’ve introduced a couple items that are unique to the Bexley location, so I decided to try those as well. The Bexley Shakshuka Breakfast Sammy uses an urfa pepper bagel from Sammy’s Bagels, topped with a poached egg in a tomato-pepper sauce, drizzled with a house-made zhug, and queso fresco.

They’ve also added a side of Purple Craze Latkes. It’s a pair of purple potato latkes made with matzo meal and cumin, served with sides of Snowville crema and pumpkin apple butter.

There’s a small shelf with Katalina’s swag, plus bags of Thunderkiss Coffee, bottles of Milligan’s maple syrup, jars of jam, and more.

They even have special “Bexley or Bust” mugs.

Just like its two original locations are known for their patios, Katalina’s Tres features a size-able al fresco dining area, too.

And the side of the building is decorated with murals by local artists.

Katalina’s Tres is open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
