We’ve enjoyed a few different stays at Glenlaurel, A Scottish Inn & Cottages over the years and have always had a delightful time. The Scottish-themed getaway is tucked into a rolling property in Rockbridge, Ohio, right near Hocking Hills State Park, and there they feature a full restaurant, cozy cottages with hot tubs, a ravine for exploring, and even an eight-hole golf course.
Glenlaurel features a mix of cottages, crofts, guest rooms, and suites in the main house.
The Scottish theme plays out throughout all the rooms.
Each cottage and croft features a private deck with hot tub.
Behind the property is a small ravine with trails running through it. There are a few benches and other casual seating areas throughout.
One of the big delights of staying at Glenlaurel is the dining experience. Glenlaurel changed up its culinary team several months back, and they’re really creating some interesting dishes.
But first… your dinner at Glenlaurel always starts with a cocktail hour, either in the pub or on the patio, depending on the weather. It’s a lovely time when everyone’s invited. After about an hour, a bit of recorded bagpiping will call everyone in to dinner. Depending on the size of your group, you may be seated in the main dining room, the downstairs pub, or the big dining table off the entryway.
And then the evening progresses with a six-course meal (it’s seven courses on Saturdays). The main course varies depending on the day of the week: pork on Mondays, salmon on Tuesdays, rack of lamb on Saturdays, etc., although you can request a different entree in advance.
You can order additional drinks with your meal as well: wine, beer, cocktails, spirits. Everything is beautifully presented.
As you can imagine, there’s also a handsome whiskey list. And the pours are very generous.
The meal generally consists of an appetizer, a soup, a salad, a little break for a palate-cleansing sorbet, then the main course followed by dessert.
Our meal this time around included a delightful tuna tartare.
And a very memorable mushroom soup. We chatted with the chefs about some of the morel hunting that takes place all around the region.
We were visiting on a Friday, so the main course was seafood-focused.
After dinner and dessert, it was time to thank our hosts, then head back to the cottage for the night.
But that’s not all! In addition to dinner, a lovely multi-course breakfast is included in your stay. Just like the dinner, it has no right being this good (or no need to be, given the captive audience). But great care and attention is given to the service and dishes. Like these house-made scones!
Or the little bowl of porridge! This version was loaded with blueberries.
In addition to coffee, tea, scones, and porridge, you get your choice from two entrees. We tried one of each. (You can also purchase brunch cocktails!)
This beautifully plated stuffed French toast was loaded with berries and came with a side of bacon.
And check out this open-faced BLT with cherry tomatoes, poached eggs, and hollandaise on a toasted croissant!
We’d highly recommend a stay at Glenlaurel! It feels secluded and relaxing while offering plenty of amenities, including remarkable dining experiences.
